Tender is the heart

When we are heartbroken, we often forget to take the small actions that might help us feel better because we are swamped with feelings of unworthiness, or caught up in rumination mode, or busy numbing our feelings with tech or alcohol or sugar. We lose sight of the little things we could do to nurture and take care of ourselves, because we don’t think we deserve them. So, try this: Imagine it’s not you but your best friend who is heartbroken. What would you suggest they do? You might recommend a hot water bottle and an early night; that they cosy up by the fire under a blanket with a hot mug of tea, or sink into a hot bath with a good book. Or get outside for a walk among the trees; spend the afternoon browsing in a bookshop. Do for yourself what you would suggest to your best friend. Be gentle and kind - be tender.
