Going wild
Being outdoors and connecting with nature has a proven, positive impact on our mental wellbeing, and a name: Ecotherapy, so any outing in nature is going to help heal our broken hearts. However, if you’re up for it, there’s nothing quite like plunging yourself beneath cold water for ten minutes or so to make you feel truly alive; your heart beating hard in your chest; your body’s raw power in this visceral immersive experience where pain somehow meets joy. The cold water boosts dopamine levels and increases the release of endorphins, our body’s own feel good hormones. Do it in the sea or a lake or pond and you add a spiritual elementto the experience; being so at one with nature in all its magnificence is both humbling and empowering. Bring a thermos of hot tea for afterwards, and it’ll taste like a warm hug radiating from within. Regular swimming indoors too, even just half an hour at a time, is known to be effective for lowering incidences of depression and anxiety and improve sleep patterns. So, why not give it a try?
